In brief

Heavy subject matter: the guy's wife dies, book is about the year after she dies. Lots of flashbacks to his childhood, and the rest of his life, dysfunctional family. Makes you think of stuff you don't want to think about. Good writing, big words - some I looked up, very interesting. Booker Prize winner.

From the publisher

Following the death of his wife, Max Morden retreats to the seaside town of his childhood summers, where his own life becomes inextricably entwined with the members of the vacationing Grace family.
